AGNC Investment Corp. is an internally managed real estate investment trust (REIT) that invests primarily in Agency residential mortgage-backed securities (Agency RMBS) on a leveraged basis. These include pass-through certificates and CMOs guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or Ginnie Mae. AGNC also invests in Agency multifamily MBS, CRT securities, non-Agency RMBS, and CMBS. The company funds investments primarily through repurchase agreements and TBA dollar roll transactions, operating its own captive broker-dealer subsidiary, Bethesda Securities, LLC.
